Introduction
Throughout the cycle of time, in every Yuga, there have been forces that seek to distort and degrade the principles of Life that were established from time unknown on this land. The forces of Might, Ego, Ignorance and Greed raised its poisonous hood to sting the very nerve of social harmony and unity.
So, it is in Kali yuga too, in the form of darkness and illusion, the strategic efforts to downgrade the principles of Life that we know as Sanatana Dharma is in full swing. Today we live in a time where speaking openly about the word Sanatana dharma will indulge you into politics and you will be deemed as a right-wing supporter or communal too.
Unfortunately, the politics and politicians of this era contribute to this degradation and misunderstanding. Those whom we chose as leaders are often misguiding or misinterpreting the principles of Life for their political benefits than being neutral and righteous. Even those who call themselves as Hindus hardly are aware of the historical facts and that ignorance is capitalized upon by many to create communal division and social disharmony.
Hence, I feel a vital need to throw light upon what I understand as SANATANA DHARMA. At least by doing so we might be able to stay alert and not fall for these political slavery and mockery over Indic Life Science.
Sanatana Dharma as an Eternal Life Science
Yes, I say Sanatana Dharma is nothing less than Life science, as the word Dharma in this context means exactly what we understand as science.
Science is a systematic study of life and world around through observation and experimentation. Sanatana Dharma or the Eternal Life Science is all about an internal and external experimental experience, that stands within and beyond the limitations of external laboratorial observations and studies about Life, Nature and Existence.
Sanatana Dharma is an unbiased cosmic order which elevates every being from the cages of ignorance and suffering. This cosmic order teaches us to live in accordance with the natural laws.
Sanatana Dharma as Religion
It is a mammoth task to even date back the origins of Sanatana Dharma. But to keep things easy, let us depend on the available sources of historical, archeological and cultural proofs to understand how Sanatana Dharma was limited to be a religion of beliefs, dogmas and superstitions.
There was a time period when the total land mass was divided into seven islands (Sapta Dweepa) and one of these seven islands was called “Jambu Dweepa”. The land mass of Jambu Dweepa extended unto what we today know as Persia, Russia Indonesia and Java.
People who lived around the mount Meru named their land mass as “Bharata”. Which means the land where people are involved and inclined towards wisdom. Where as people from other regions of Jambu Dweepa called or recognized Bharata as the Land of Seven Waters/Rivers (Sapta Sindhu).
Persians mispronounced Sapta Sindhu as Hapta Hindu which can be claimed to be the very first origins of the word Hindu. Hence Hindu is more a geographical identity than a religious identity. Well later the same was mispronounced by others as Hindus or Indus or Hindustan.
Now comes the tricky part. Imagine you are from a geographical location that preaches you the principles of life as explained by a prophet and you are told to follow a particular doctrine as laid down by the prophet or by the followers.
In other words, imagine you are practicing a particular religion, and you end up on a land where there is no concept of prophet and there is no “One single rule for all”. Rather you see people are classified socially based on their skills and profession.
You end up meeting people who rejoice the freedom to practice Life based on Dharma and not on beliefs. You see people following a systematic Life that helps them to flow through the stages of life without any slavery or hardship. Indeed you would feel confused and you will end up naming this lifestyle in the same way as you were told and taught about life.
Hence the people who followed a religion couldn’t digest a society that was beyond religious atrocities, dictatorship and classifications. They were compelled to label this life style as “Hinduism”. Because they couldn’t think beyond that. This was the emergence of Hinduism and Downfall of Sanatana Dharma.
Religion is a system of beliefs that binds people together with similar God, faith, and practices. But Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism was well-designed and yet diverse. Everyone was given the liberty to understand life and the nature around with a philosophy and practice that resonates to him or her the most. Everyone was capable enough to discover the laws governing their individual and social life. As a result, the society flourished in unity by respecting the diversity. But not for long as the negative influences corrupted the minds.
Though there were efforts to further damage and erase Sanatana Dharma by limiting it with beliefs, superstitions and social classifications which was foreign, this Sanatana Dharma survived the atrocities and vulgarities of religious and political dominations.
The Clarion Call
Though many managed to adulterate the concepts and ideologies of Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism with their theories of Aryan Invasion, Caste system and religious hatred, one thing they couldn’t and cannot break is the inherent proximity, oneness and love for a Dharmic Life that flows within the blood and the very DNA of every being whose forefathers followed Sanatana Dharma.
Even those who compare Sanatana Dharma to an epidemic will have a family member who not only follows but also defends Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism by living it. Because the core teaching of Sanatana Dharma was never to divide and rule rather it was to Unite the Diverse. Sanatana Dharma was never about hatred or dictatorship; it was and is always about love and leadership.
To truly discover the essence of Sanatana Dharma one must go beyond the surface and seek the essence. Hinduism was never limited to attend the temple or perform the rituals. One must understand the deeper purpose and meaning behind every practice of Hinduism.
The Conclusion
Sanatana Dharma today more than a Life science and a religion is a “CALL TO ACTION”, “CALL OF UNITY” AND A “CALL FOR PEACE”. Sanatana Dharma is a call to awaken every human from the slumber of ignorance and hatred.
Sanatana Dharma is awaiting with a map to navigate us from the life of limitations, suffering and divisions to a life of Oneness, Harmony and Unity. Sanatana Dharma is not a belief to be followed but a Life science to be experimented, experienced and lived.
